Magic the Gathering types

Creature Types

Animal types, or creature subtypes, tend to be designations given to specific cards based on the animal they represent.

This type may be referenced in some cards, therefore generate a Tribal experience of like-designated cards. Animals of the same type oftentimes are better together, while some creatures are designed specifically around communications with another type. Furthermore, there are many spells that limit their particular function to only connect to animals of a certain kind, and the other way around.

Additionally, many creature cards have a "Race/Class Model". A "Race" implies a species where creature belongs, while a "Class" relates to a profession or 'calling'. An example of a Race is "Elf", and a class is "Wizard". Therefore, a mix "Elf Wizard" is oftentimes seen. But not all the cards follow the Race/Class Model; specifically, non-sentient creatures generally don't have a "class".
